Bhubaneswar, 1 Feb 2014: Kalinga Motors Sports Club is going to organize Spirit of Kalinga II (the third round of Eastern India TSD Challenge 2013), a TDS (Time/ Distance/ Speed) rally for 4 wheelers and 2 wheelers on 8th and 9th February 2014 in Bhubaneswar.
Any person (18 years or above) holding a valid driving and FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India) competition license can enter in this event. While the pre event scrutiny and driver’s briefing will be held on the 8th of February at BRM IIT Campus, Pandara, Bhubaneswar, the main rally will be held on 9th of February and the prize distribution will be held in this campus on the 9th of February evening.
This rally will be involving a number of Drivers and Navigators who will drive their 4-Wheeler Cars and 2- Wheeler bikes through tarmac, broken tarmac, sandy roads with the objective of achieving top laurels in this exciting & scenic Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) event. The derivers will also face small hills and ghat sections during their drive. The rally will run through Bhubaneswar and adjacent areas covering a distance of 200-300 kms (approx). The Rally will start from BRM IIT campus, Pandra, Bhubaneswar and finishes at the same place.
A TSD Rally event requires Drivers & Navigators to drive their Cars and bikes along an undisclosed route marked by arrows/markings/directions along with distances mentioned in a Road Book or commonly known as a ‘Tulip Chart’. Such events, also requires each team to drive at the specified Variable Average Speeds specified in the Road Book.
The Variable Average Speeds necessitates teams to be at a specified location at a particular point of time. Any delay or early arrival at a particular point along the specified route will attract penalty points and as such the team with the minimum penalty points becomes the winner. This will be monitored by Marshals, posted at secret locations who will record the timings maintained by the teams.
Such Variable Average Speeds will not exceed 45 KMPH in non-Highway stretches. All this requires the teams to concentrate on identifying the route, check the route markings with the physical layout and do complicated mathematical calculations for ascertaining the correct timings.
This event will provide a lot of challenge to the participants to cover long distances on different road surfaces as well changed traffic profile available in Bhubaneswar and adjacent areas in this 200-300 kms (appx) event.
