When girls at her age depend on other for their livelihood, Basanti has transformed herself to become the source of livelihood for them

“Hard things are put in our way, not to stop us, but to call out our courage and strength”, this statement can be true for Basanti, who is a Differently abled woman entrepreneur. Her success story 2will undoubtedly inspire hundreds of physically challenged people to turn achievers.

Basanti’s legs weakened because of Polio. However it couldn’t confine her dreams or aspirations anyway. She successfully completed her graduation and laid a string foundation for others to do the same. She also completed her tailoring training course before getting married. After marriage she wished to start her own tailoring training centre and had to convince her in law for the same, not-an-easy task but she could manage. She began her training centre and started training students. Gradually she was able to make some bright students and intended to give them their livelihood besides making herself economically strong. She wished to start production of dresses and school uniforms. The only problem she faced was insufficient funds.

She came to know about BYST from the field officer, conducting Awareness Generation Programme and expressed her interest to become an entrepreneur. After counseling and STEP Training the finance officers found her proposal viable and helped her availing loan of Rs.1 lac. After disbursement of loan, she went through post loan training in which she came to know about production management, marketing, quality management and all that an entrepreneur needs in her day to day activities.

Today Basanti is successfully running her own garment manufacturing unit at Jaraka 3where she has employed 7 girls of her area besides herself. Her annually turnover is Rs.3.5 LAC. She is getting work orders from nearby areas and also some reputed brand like J.P.HANDLOOMS. She is aiming towards expansion of her unit in near future and targeting to deploy another six numbers of girls in her unit.

When girls at her age depend on other for their livelihood, Basanti has transformed herself to become the source of livelihood for them. Really she is a true inspiration for other girls.
