The Second Day Opens with General Assembly at SAI-MUN – the Model United Nations Conference at SAI International School, Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, 26 July 2014: The second day of the grand SAIMUN that is been held at the SAI International School began with the second General Assembly- International Press Council. The occasion was graced by Chief Guest Shri Nishikant Mishra, CMD, Team Admark.
The assembly began with the speech of the newly elected Head Girl Ms. Raina Mahapatra who thanked the Chief Guest and reiterated the purpose of the SAI-MUN. She stated that the conference wishes to instill the values of compassion, generosity, tolerance and respect for others in the participating delegates.
The Secretary General, Mr. Suvendu Samal presented a concise report of the proceedings of the seven committees held on day one of the Conference. He briefed the assembly about the topics and issues being raised in the committees of United Nations General Assembly: Disarmament and International Security (UNGA- DISEC) , United Nations Historic Security Council (UNHSC), United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), World Trade Organization (WTO), Economic and Finance Committee (ECOFIN), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
in his address, Shri Harish Sanduja, Principal, SAI International School, urged the student leaders to be more participative and take the initiative of raising a motion in the committees. He also shred his own personal experience of imbibing leadership qualities and the importance of public speaking in a humorous yet effective manner.
While addressing the gathering Shri Nishikant Mishra, Chief Guest of the session, said, “Every child has the right to be heard and hence it is important for each one of you to stand up and voice out your opinions.” He further added, “It is your opinion that will make a difference in the world tomorrow.” He also congratulated the participating delegates for being actively involved in MUN since they are the future UN diplomats of the globe.
The International delegates were awarded with certificates and the official newsletter of the SAIMUN 14’ – ‘The SAIMUN Tribune’ was released by the esteemed Chief Guest. The newsletter carried the reports, articles, short interviews and photographs by the International Press team.
Shri Nilakantha Panigrahi, Senior Vice Principal, SAI International School, in his vote of thanks expressed his gratitude to the Chief Guest for gracing the occasion. He also thanked the participating national and international delegates to be actively and sincerely involved in the conference.
The General Assembly was followed by the beginning of the technical sessions where more issues were raised, conflicts resolved and motions passed. “I am looking forward to a discussion in my committee as we have too many people with different viewpoints. It is very interesting to see how the viewpoints clash and how we will be able to pass a resolution effectively. I am really enjoying being a part of the SAIMUN”, said a student delegate.
