Bhubaneswar, 18th June, 2016: ‘Shrie’ Awards 2016, an initiative of Parichay Foundation is organized on this Father’s Day, 19th June at Campus 7, KIIT Auditorium, to celebrate the successful go-getting men of our society. There are many organizations and programs that honor and respect women and other social objectives however the men achievers are normally left out. Hence, the initiative aims at congratulating the men achievers who are at par in their own respective fields.
The awards would be given in different categories to the achievers which are as follows:
Joe Madiath completed his studies in English literature from Madras University. As a student, he was elected as the President of the Loyola College Students’ Union and founded the Young Students’ Movement for Development (YSMD) to harness positively the student disenchantment prevailing during that period. In 1969, as a student, he journeyed across India, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka on a bicycle for a year.
In 1971, Joe led 400 YSMD volunteers to manage a number of relief camps for refugees from Bangladesh. Later that year, 40 volunteers along with Joe, moved to Orissa, which was ravaged by a cyclone and tidal waves. Joe and a few colleagues decided to stay on in the area after relief work to work as development activists. They moved to Ganjam District in southern Orissa in 1976 on invitation from Government, to initiate development activities among the indigenous communities. This resulted in the establishment of Gram Vikas in 1979.
Joe Madiath is a founder member of the Voluntary Action Network India (VANI) and the Orissa Development Action Forum (ODAF). He currently serves on the Governing Board of several institutions including Council for Advancement of People’s Action and Rural Technologies (CAPART), Society for Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA) and BASIX. He has been part of various consultative committees of the central and state governments. He was the chairman of the working committee on Water and Sanitation for preparation of the 12th five year plan.
Mr. Sujit Mahapatra is the Founder and Secretary of Bakul Foundation, a leading social service organization in the state and in the country in demonstrating the power of volunteerism by doing exemplary work in the fields of Education, Environment, Arts and Volunteerism, entirely with the resources of volunteers and small individual contributions.
For a living, he works part time as an English Language Expert and a Development Consultant. Sujit studied English Literature at the Universities of Utkal, Hyderabad and Delhi. He has been Faculty, Department of English, Ravenshaw University, where he designed and taught an MA Specialization on Children’s Literature.
Prof (Dr.) Madhabananda Kar, is Professor & Head, Department of Surgical Oncology. He is also a participant in 6th ATEP Seoul, in South Korea. He got the Scientific Fellowship Certificate from Samsung Medical Centre, Seoul, South Korea. He is a Senior Consultant, Surgical Oncology Apollo Hospitals Bhubaneswar. He is also Adjunct Associate Professor at Northern Illinois University, Chicago, USA. He is the Asst. Professor of Surgical Oncology at KIIMS, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar. He is also elected as executive member from east zone for “Indian Society for Study of Lung Cancer” and as executive member from east zone for Indian Association of Surgical Oncology (IASO) 2014-2015. He is the Principal Investigator of Hospital Based Cancer Registry programme at Apollo Hospital in ICMR and part of establishing cancer centre in Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Dehradun, Uttarakhnad. He started one Surgical Oncology Unit (Plan for Cancer Centre for Future) in the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar and headed the Surgical Oncology in Apollo Hospital as well. He is been elected the President of Orissa Cancer Foundation founded by late Dr. Banamali Mohanty, first Onco-surgeon of Odisha.
Satyarth Nayak is an author & script-writer based in New Delhi. Holding Masters in English Literature from St. Stephen’s, he is a former Correspondent at CNN-IBN, Delhi and was felicitated with the SAARC Heal Honour for Health Reporting in India in 2008.
Sports: Md Jafar Iqbal
Md. Jafar Iqbal is an All-rounder of Indian Cricket Team of the Visually Impaired, Captain of East Zone Cricket Team of the Visually Impaired, Captain of Odisha Cricket Team of the Visually Impaired. He has a Gold Medal in 800m Running and Bronze medal in 200m and 400m running at Para-Olympics held in Faridabad, Haryana and under his Captainship, Odisha became Champion four times consecutively in the East Zone Blind Cricket Tournaments since 2011 and the team Odisha is defending champion in national cricket tournament.
Art & Culture: Mr. Saswat Joshi
Saswat Joshi born and brought up in the town Titilagarh, holds the Master degree in English literature and is the recipient of National Scholarship from Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. He is the Nrityavisharad from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh University with gold medal, and the topper in Odissi dance, in national level.
He also has Sangeet Ratna award and post graduation degree in Odissi dance from Rabindrabharatee University and again received a gold medal and became the topper in Odissi dance, in national level. He is the founder of Lasyakala Dance Vision, in Bhubaneswar, and opened many branches in India and abroad.
His summer workshop Kallol, the sound of excitement has given the society a full time recognition. He conducts every year a festival named Aekalavya, a tribute to Guru Shishya Parampara and gives Aekalavya Samman to the young classical dancers.
Dr.Bijoy Kumar Sahoo, a Chartered Accountant by qualification and profession of 25 years laid the foundation of his dream to build a premier institution of excellence in the year 2007. SAI International School is the realization of his dream.
Mr. Santosh Panda is the co-founder & CEO of Explara.com. Santosh Panda has decade of diverse experience in software Industry in UK, USA, Finland and India. He has extensive experience in product development, consulting for FTSE 100 companies and start-up companies across the globe. Some of the organization for whom Santosh was involved in building products are BBC iPlayer, eBay UK, Cyclone Commerce, OnStation, William Hill, Spoke Software and few startups. Santosh holds a bachelor degree in engineering from Utkal University.
Entertainment: Mr. Yash A Patnaik
Yash A Patnaik is a well known Indian television producer and screenwriter with over a dozen television series under his name. A first generation entrepreneur, Yash started his career as a journalist for print as well as electronic media in 1995. He founded Indian media company Beyond Dreams Entertainment Private Limited  in 2007 along with his writer wife Mamta Yash A Patnaik. Before Beyond Dreams, Yash has worked with many prominent production houses and television channels as Producer, Director, Creative Director, Executive Producer and CEO for over a decade.
Rashmi Ranjan Parida is a noted journalist, media guru, development activist and media entrepreneur who brought revolutionary changes to the state of Odisha through his vision and dedication. From 2002 he solely dedicated his time for the promotion of brand Odisha in innovative way. He started several initiatives to promote Odia community, Odisha in global level. He is the Founder-Editor of two leading news-portals; Orissa Diary, Odishan and India Education Diary (www.indiaeducationdiary.com). He is the founder and director of East India’s largest literary meet Kalinga Literary Festival. He founded Kalinga Literary Festival in the year of 2013.
He specifies in Promoting Odia Culture Abroad. He is a MBA from SUIC, Southern Illinois University which is a public research university located in Carbondale, Illinois, United States. He worked in Singapore since 1998 with IBM Singapore. He is the Founding member and President of Odia Society of Singapore since 2011.
