Bhubaneswar, 01st July, 2016 (OdishaLIVE Bureau): Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Naveen Patnaik, today, felicitated the students of ‘OMC Super 30’ who qualified in JEE Main/Advanced at Jaydev Bhawan, Bhubaneswar.
As a part of Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC)’s Corporate Social Responsibility, it has started an initiative to support underprivileged yet bright students for Higher Education. OMC has under taken this initiative in collaboration with Centre for Social Responsibility and Leadership (CSRL), New Delhi.
Apart from the Chief Minister, the event was graced by Shri Subroto Bagchi, Chairman, Odisha Skill Development Authority; Shri Prafulla Kumar Mallick, Minister of Steel & Mines; Shri Aditya Prasad Padhi, Chief Secretary & Chief Development Commissioner, Secretary to Cabinet; Shri Sanjay Kumar Das Burma, Minister of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare and Employment & Technical Education & Training; Shri R Balakrishnan, Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department, Government of Odisha and Shri Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi, Miister of Higher Education, Science & Technology.
Two batches of 30 students each was started under this initiative in 2015. ‘OMC Super 30 batch consisted students from Keonjhar, Kalahandi, Koraput, Sundargarh, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul Jagatsinghpur, Khordha & Rayagada. All the students are from families with income of less than Rs. 2.5 lakhs per annum which is a selection criterion for this programme.
Students were provided with 11 months free residential coaching to compete in the IIT and other premier engineering exams. Out of 60 students, 52 have qualified the JEE Mains and 24 have qualified in the written exam of JEE Advanced.
