Bhubaneswar, 27th June, 2016 (OdishaLIVE Bureau): Rio Olympics 2016 will now have two Odia sprinters in the 100-metre and 200–metre run this year. Ace woman sprinter, Srabani Nanda has also qualified into the Rio Olympics after clocking 23.07 seconds in the 200-metre run in the XXVI International Meeting G. Kosanov Memorial at Almaty in Kazakhstan. The Olympic qualifying timing for 200 meter run is 23.20 seconds.
Following the footprints of her fellow athlete, Dutee Chand, Srabani has become the first woman runner from Odisha and second Indian athlete to make it to Olympics.
“I am very happy. I thank all the Odias for their well wishes. I will surely try to bring the gold medal in the Olympics,” said Srabani.
The 24-year-old athlete belongs to Phulbani District, Odisha. Srabani came into the limelight after bagging a bronze medal each in 100 and 200 meter events in the SAF Games at Colombo in the year 2007. After that, she got gold medal in the relay event in the Youth Commonwealth Games at Pune in 2008.
