Puri, 06th July, 2016 (OdishaLIVE Bureau): Over 10 lakhs devotees throng to the holy town of Puri in Odisha to witness the celestial Sri Gundicha Yatra of Lord Jagannath. After series rituals the three chariots were pulled by the crowd in the afternoon. However, as per the tradition the chariots were stopped on the Grand Road as they could not reach Gundicha Temple before sunset.
While ‘Darpadalana’ of Devi Subhadra had to stop near Bagala Dharmasala, the Chariots of Baladev and Jagannath near Mausi Maa Temple and Rajnabara, respectively. The Chariots will be pulled up to Gundicha Temple tomorrow and the deities will be taken to the Singhashan over there where they will give darshan to the devotees for the next seven days.
Today, after different rituals at the Temple, the deities Sudarshan, Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath were taken to the Chariots. This part of the event, called ‘Pahandi Bije’, pulls the attention of the devotees as they get the first glance of the deities on the Grand Road after 15 days of ‘Anabashara Seva’.
After ‘Pahandi’ it was the turn of Gajapati, the King of Puri, who had to sweep the three chariots with golden broom. Gajapati Divya Singha Deb, performed this seva, called ‘Chherapahanra’ with devotion amidst the huge crowd who were waiting for the pulling of the Chariots. The whole Grand Road was filled with ocean of devotees coming from different parts of the country and overseas.
After, ‘Chherapahanra’ the devotees pulled the chariots with lot of enthusiasm and devotion and as if the Grand Road turned into wave of humanity where the people forget their caste, color and religion and get submerged with Jagannath Cult.
There was a tight security at Puri for this event and hundreds of security personnel guarded the show. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik along with Minister Law and Panchayati Raj and many senior officials witnessed the event at Puri.
