Balasore, 07th June, 2016 (OdishaLIVE Bureau): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) from Odisha Police over the Rape and Murder of a Six Year old Girl in Balasore district of Odisha.

Acting on a petition filed by Rights Activist and Supreme Court Lawyer Radhakanta Tripathy the NHRC sought the response within four weeks.

On April 25th, 2016 a six-year-old girl was found on the banks of  Sone river in Narlapatna area in Balasore district of Odisha .

The little girl, whose father is no more, was missing. Later her body was found with multiple injury marks.

The Police failed to trace her even if she was missing and later on forced to be raped and murdered. The mother of the deceased has also been deprived of widow pension and a house under IAY or any other housing schemes of the government, Tripathy pointed out.

“The girl had to go out for answering the nature’s call and taken away by the culprits. The failure of the Odisha Police and district administration of Balasore to act over this issue amount to serious violation of human rights”, Tripathy alleged.

He requested the NHRC to investigate the case and sought a detailed report from the DGP, Odisha and Balasore District Collector to arrest the culprits, ensure widow pension and a house under IAY or any other housing schemes to the mother of the deceased along with compensation upto  five lakh rupees and ensure basic human rights.
