Bhubaneswar, 13 Sept. 2014: Shri Prafulla Das, noted writer in Odia, will get the 35th edition of prestigious Sarala Award for his novel “Bahniman” and his lifetime achievement in the field of literature.
The Sarala Award Committee announced this in a meeting held here on Friday evening. Mr. Das will receive a cash award of Rs. 2,50,000 /- along with a citation.
“Bahniman”, is the biography of noted freedom fighter and Gandhian leader Smt. Malati Choudhury.
Two other noted personalities of the State will be honoured by Sarala Trust for valuable contribution in their respective fields. They are Odissi Singer Smt. Shyamamani Devi and famous painter Shri Shiva Panigrahi. They will receive a cash award of Rs. 1,00,000/- each along with citation.
A special function will be held on 26th October, 2014 to felicitate the three personalities, the Sarala Award Committee informed in a press release. Mr. Javed Akhtar, eminent poet, lyricist and scriptwriter of India has consented to be the Chief Guest of the Sarala Award Function.
The annual Sarala Award instituted in the year 1979 by the Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT). IMPaCT is the charitable wing of IMFA Group, the leading and the only fully integrated producer of ferro alloys in India.
Sarala Award is recognized as the foremost literary award of our state. This award is one of the finest contributions of IMPaCT to glorify Odia Literature. The Ekalabya Award also instituted by IMPaCT, crowns promising sports talent of Odisha.
