The festival is conceived as an offering of new and exclusive choreographic compositions in two different dance styles in honour of all the Gurus who have guided and inspired us. Every year two styles of dance come together on the same platform to showcase recent and innovative works. While Odissi is a constant factor, the other classical style varies every year.
This year the festival is going to open with Akshara, a new presentation by the Art Vision repertory group. Choreography is going to be done by Ileana Citaristi, music by Laxmikanta Palit and original Odia poetry by Devdas Chhotray. It is meant to be homage to the Odia alphabet, whose round letters are considered to be born out of three original sunya or zero, which represent the entire universe.
The second item of the evening is offered by Swati Daithankar and troupe from Pune. Tejonidhi is an audiovisual presentation in Bharat Natyam style inspired by the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda. The script, concept and choreography are by Swati herself while the music is by Dhananjay Daithankar.
The third presentation is Karuna, Odissi homage to Mother Theresa by the Art Vision dance troupe. Concept, choreography and costume by Ileana CItaristi, music by Laxmikanta Palit and lyrics by Devdas Chhottray and Prafulla Kumar Misra. This is the story of a woman who, at a certain point of her life, leaves everything behind to follow a call towards the unknown, carrying with her only her unshakable faith and her love for the poorest of the poor. From one she became many, hundreds, and thousands who wanted to follow in her holy path. The dance composition is a humble tribute to her.
