Bhubaneswar (OdishaLIVE Bureau): Popular singer and composer, Biebhukishore’s much-awaited solo album of Odia modern songs named ‘Blue Mood’ was released on the occasion of Mahalaya at Hotel Crown here. The album is a soliloquy of eight new poems written by renowned poet and lyricist Devdas Chhotray on the theme of desolation and dark dreams.
Produced by Akshay Kumar Parija, the album is a unique work as Odia poems have been set to music for the first time. The eight poems of Chhotray which have found a place in this album are Sakaala, Thikanaa, Tume, Saabalika, Kala Kagaja, Nida Sahita Sarta, Semiti Jhia, and Manakharapra Phula.
A mesmerizing live performance of the songs by Biebhukishore and his team soon after the release of the audio CD drew a huge applause from the packed hall. Chhotray’s voice-over before each song was equally captivating and thought-provoking.
Speaking on the occasion, Biebhukishore thanked Chhotray for giving him an opportunity and privilege to compose as well as sing his poems. As his lyrics are already very popular in the voice of great singers like Akshaya Mohanty, I thought to do something different by trying his poems and I’m glad that he has liked my compositions and voice, he said. We had been working on this album for at least 10 years and I’m very happy that it could be released finally, said the ebullient singer, who carved a niche in Bollywood recently with his Odia version of Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Jabra Fan’ song which went viral on YouTube.
In his speech, Chhotray narrated the rich tradition and acceptance of poetry being set to music citing works of American singer Bob Dylan and Bengali poet-singer-musician Kabir Suman (Suman Chattopadhyay). He added that he is currently working on the Odia adaptation of twelve most popular songs of musical creative genius Kabir Suman, who was born and brought up in Cuttack.
‘Blue Mood’ is marketed by ‘Amara Music’.
