DSC_0635Bhubaneswar (09.09.2013): The concluding evening of 19th Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra Award Festival started with the customary award giving ceremony by the Hon’ble Minister, Agriculture, Fisheries & Animal Resources Development, Housing & Urban Development Shri Debiprasad Mishra.

The Award was instituted in the year 1995 with a view to generating a feeling of cultural amity amongst the performing arts fraternity and acknowledging the excellence and contribution of great artists in the field of dance, music, theatre and cinema. Guru Ratikanta Mohapatra the leading torch-bearer of his father and Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra’s legacy is committed to reach out the nook and corner of the Globe with all its pristine glory and purity.

Srjan (Guru DSC_0567Kelu Charan Mohapatra Odissi Nrutyabasa) founded in 1993 by Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra has pioneered the cause of recognizing the talents and achievements of individual artists in different art forms.

This year the Award conferred on veteran Odissi Dance Guru Shankar Behera and Odissi Vocalist Guru Ghanshyam Panda. Sincerity, self confidence and perseverance have sometimes conquered poverty and all hurdles for which Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra has set an example to be emulated by others.

The artistes of Srjan presented Gitamruta from Bhagavadgita, the immortal creation of Hindu tradition which articulates the enduring value and ethics of mankind spelt out through Lord Krishna. Arjuna caught in the bondage, his mind being clouded, convictions unsettled and whole consciousness confused, being in the state of hesitation and despondency was consoled and advised by Lord Krishna who is imperishable, indefinable and unthinkable. Conceptualization and presentation to intellectualize the untranslatable experience evoke underlying enduring spiritual stratum.

The value of existence and the eternal values in which the ultimate mysteries of human life and knowledge other-wise called the metaphysics and ethics were unmistakably presented in this dance drama based on Bhagavadgita. The choreography of this impeccable presentation was by Guru Ratikanta Mohapatra, the music was composed by Pandit Raghunath Panigrahi, Pandit Bhubaneswar Mishra and Satyabrata Katha. The script and Sanskrit rendering was by Shri Nitananda Mishra.
